In August of 2008 three presentations of our work were made at the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability (IASSID) quadrennial conference in South Africa, the leading international academic association for intellectual disability.

BCACL Conference – Aiming High and Leading the Way, June 14-16, 2007
This presentation summarizes some of the findings from the focus groups and individual interviews held in the Spring and Summer of 2006. The research project held focus groups for self-advocates and family members to share their thoughts and experiences related to the supports and services they or their family member receives. Findings related to what is working, what is not working, and what individuals hope to see are highlighted in this presentation.
Young Adults Transitioning from High School
BCACL Conference – Aiming High and Leading the Way, June 14-16, 2007
This presentation summarizes the findings from the focus groups and interviews that focused on the transition from high school. Self-advocates and family members were invited to discuss their experience of the transition process in terms of what worked, what did not work, and what would improve the experience. Initial themes from these discussions were shared at the BCACL Conference this past summer.
Seniors with a Developmental Disability: A Review of Research and an Exploration of Experience
Symposium on Research in Aging, University of Victoria, June 20, 2007
This presentation was give at a research symposium that brought together various research and projects that responded to the issue of aging. Findings from focus groups and interviews with older self-advocates and family members are summarized within this report. Themes related to aging in place, hopes for the future, concerns for the future, and later life planning are highlighted in this presentation.
Community Living Research Project
CLBC Board, September 25th, 2007
The CLBC Board invited the Community Living Research Project to present initial findings and a status report at the September 2007 CLBC Board meeting. This presentation summarizes the project as a whole and focuses specifically on some of the preliminary themes that came out of the focus groups and interviews held in the Spring/Summer of 2006.
